IAM Saves Military Bases from Closure
IAM members defeated the McCain-Reed Base Closure Amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, a reckless proposal that would close military bases across our country.
Machinists Union (IAM) International President Bob Martinez issued the following statement on the defeat of the McCain-Reed Base Closure Amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act:
“Working families have sent a clear message by forcing the rejection of the McCain-Reed Base Closure Amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. We need to protect our military base communities and their local economies. I want to thank the thousands of IAM members who work hard every day to support our men and women at military bases across the country. And thank you to all our IAM members and their family members who worked hard to defeat such a reckless proposal that would have devastated working families and their communities. Now, we must get to work and help provide the necessary resources to maintain a world-class military.”
We took on this issue for military families and @MachinistsUnion members who are proud to support them.
