61.61% Of The IAM Local Lodge 2003 Membership Votes To Ratify Contract

Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local Lodge 2003, have successfully ratified the M1 Support Services, L.P., Fort Novosel, AL contract. The ratification vote took place over three days, April 8th, 9th, and 10th, with 61.61% of the membership voting to accept the contract. This resulted in several significant advancements for the members.

Highlights of the Contract

  • Annual General Wage Increases: The contract stipulates an annual general wage increase of 4% in the first year, followed by 3.5% in the second and third years, and 3% in the fourth year. These increases are designed to ensure that members' wages keep pace with the cost of living and reflect their skills and contributions.
  • Recognition of Juneteenth: Juneteenth, an important day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, has been recognized as an additional holiday under the new contract. This acknowledgment not only honors a significant historical event but also promotes cultural diversity and inclusion within the workforce.
  • Enhanced Vacation Scheduling: The contract includes provisions for enhanced vacation scheduling, giving members greater flexibility and control over their time off. This improvement is aimed at supporting work-life balance and ensuring that members can take the time they need to rest and recharge.
  • Medical Coverage: The contract maintains leading medical coverage for members while managing costs effectively. This ensures that members continue to have access to high-quality healthcare services without facing undue financial burdens.
  • Pension and Retirement Contributions: The preservation of the current IAM Pension is a key component of the contract, along with increased contributions to 401(k) plans. These measures are intended to provide members with financial security in retirement and support their long-term financial planning.
  • Job Security: The contract includes successful efforts to fend off several job descriptions that threatened to undermine seniority rights. By protecting these rights, the agreement ensures that members retain their job security and have opportunities for career advancement based on their experience and tenure.

Statements from IAM Leaders

IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin expressed his pride in the contract, stating, "This agreement reflects the power of collective bargaining to resolve issues and negotiate good contracts ensuring that our members receive the respect and compensation they deserve." His sentiments highlight the importance of collective efforts in achieving favorable outcomes for all members.

IAM Aerospace Chief of Staff William “Benji” Sullivan also praised the negotiating committee's hard work, saying, "This contract not only delivers substantial wage increases and improves benefits, but it also protects the rights of our workers, providing them with job security and better benefits." Sullivan's comments underscore the comprehensive nature of the contract and its focus on both financial and job-related aspects.

IAM Local Lodge 2003 Negotiating Committee Chairman Chris Kelley emphasized the unity and commitment of the members, stating, "Through hard work, unity, and a commitment to the process, we’ve negotiated a deal that reflects the value our members bring to the table ensuring our voices were heard and concerns addressed."
