The Monday after Easter is usually spent getting back into the swing of things on the job and reminiscing on the enjoyment of the holiday. For the members of your elected LL 2003 Negotiating Committee, it meant getting on an airplane and flying to our Union Training Center in Maryland and spending 12-hour - 14-hour days undergoing intensive training in anticipation of the upcoming negotiations with Army Fleet Support.

Your negotiators spent the week covering the following subject matter:

  • Team Dynamics Unifying your Negotiating Committee to face AFS in negotiations.
  • Power Analysis Understanding strengths, weaknesses and the reality about negotiations.
  • Law and Collective Bargaining Understanding the legal framework of collective bargaining.
  • Contract Costing Learning the true cost and impact of economic proposals.
  • Company Overview Understanding economically who is L3 Com/AFS.
  • Membership Communication and Mobilization Proactive communications strategies and tactics.
  • Drafting Contract Language to benefit our members.
  • Presenting Proposals Learning the importance of proper presentation.

The week culminated with a Negotiations Simulation, where your Committee engaged in mock negotiations to sharpen their skills. This is an intense session, giving real experience in tough, often emotional bargaining sessions.
Your Union is committed to attaining the best possible Collective Bargaining Agreement for our members working for AFS at Ft. Rucker, AL. Resources being provided to benefit are the International's Aerospace Department and GLR Billy Blackmon's negotiating experience, Strategic Resources economic data and analysis, Southern Territory GVP Martinez providing support and the territorial communicator, and the Training Center staff.
